Hello mailing list subscribers.

Today I released StopTheMadness version 23.1 in the Mac App Store.

https://apps.apple.com/app/stopthemadness/id1376402589

Here's what's new:

1) Known tracking parameters are removed from the end of the URL when you use
the ⌘C and ⌘V keyboard shortcuts hovering over a link.

When the "Privacy" website option is enabled. StopTheMadness removes known
tracking parameters (such as utm_source) from the end of the URL when you click
on a link. Now in version 23.1, StopTheMadness also removes tracking parameters
from the end of the URL when you use the ⌘C and ⌘V keyboard shortcuts on a
link. These are enabled by the "Hover shortcuts" website option. When you hover
over a link, ⌘C copies it to the clipboard, and ⌘V opens the link with the app
you've selected to "Open link with" in StopTheMadness. More details are on the
support page:

2) "utm_name" has been added to the list of known URL tracking parameters.

StopTheMadness already removed most utm_ parameters. The utm_name parameter is
undocumented, but apparently it's used occasionally on the web, so added it to
the list.

3) The "Show video controls" website option automatically removes transparent
overlays from the web page only when there's actually a video on the page. This
fixes breakage that could occur on pages without a video.

In StopTheMadness version 23.0, the "Show video controls" website option was
enhanced to automatically remove transparent overlays from the web page. These
overlays could prevent you from accessing video controls even when
StopTheMadness forced them to appear. However, this change was applied to every
site for which "Show video controls" was enabled, even if the web page had no
videos on it. Unfortunately, attempting to remove transparent overlays can
cause breakage on some web sites. Thus, in StopTheMadness version 23.1, I've
fixed the "Show video controls" option to only attempt to remove transparent
overlays on pages where there's actually a video.
